Fasciola gigantica is a parasitic flatworm of the class Trematoda that causes tropical fascioliasis, and it is one of the most significant flatworm infections affecting ruminants across Asia and Africa, where the disease it causes is commonly called fasciolosis. It is closely related to Fasciola hepatica, sharing enough similarity in genetics, behavior and anatomical structure that the two species are notoriously difficult to distinguish, so accurate identification and diagnosis of infections usually requires molecular testing methods.
