The European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing, known as EUCAST, is a scientific committee that defines guidelines for interpreting antimicrobial resistance. It was formed in 1997 and is jointly organized by ESCMID, the ECDC and other European laboratories. Its breakpoint guidelines are among the most widely used in the world for antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and they are freely available to all users. Like the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, it offers guidance for turning raw minimum inhibitory concentrations into a reported result of resistant or susceptible, which differs for each combination of bacterium and drug.
