Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center

Cancer Research and Treatment Centers

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is a nonprofit cancer research institute established in 1975 in Seattle, Washington, occupying a thirteen building campus in the city's South Lake Union neighbourhood, and named for Fred Hutchinson, a major league baseball pitcher who died of lung cancer in 1964. It is designated an NCI comprehensive cancer center, conducts basic cancer research alongside patient care, and works in clinical partnership with University of Washington Medicine and Seattle Children's, having merged with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in 2022 to form an integrated research and care organization. Three Nobel Prize recipients in physiology or medicine have worked there, and the center has spun off roughly twenty biotechnology companies since its founding, including Juno Therapeutics.
