Biomedical Research Institutes

The Cajal Institute is a research center in neurobiology that belongs to the Spanish National Research Council, known by its Spanish initials CSIC. According to its Wikipedia article, it originates from the Laboratorio de Investigaciones Biologicas, founded in 1900 by order of King Alfonso XIII on the occasion of the Moscow Prize awarded to the neuroscientist Santiago Ramon y Cajal. After Cajal received the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1906 and the Junta de Ampliacion de Estudios was created in 1907, he was appointed its president. A royal decree of Alfonso XIII later ordered a new building and named Cajal its first director in 1920. This record describes the institute and offers no medical advice.
