Perelman School of Medicine

The Perelman School of Medicine is the private medical school of the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, founded in 1765 and generally regarded as the oldest medical school in the United States, the first established in the original Thirteen Colonies. It employs roughly two thousand nine hundred faculty members and enrolls hundreds of MD, PhD, and combined degree students, drawing close to a billion dollars a year in sponsored research funding, and operates several affiliated teaching hospitals, including the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital, and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. It took its present name in 2011 following a two hundred and twenty five million dollar gift from Raymond and Ruth Perelman, the largest single donation in the university's history.
