The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is a private medical school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City, and the sole academic partner of the Mount Sinai Health System. Formerly known as Mount Sinai School of Medicine until 2012, it occupies the eighteen story Icahn Medical Institute alongside its teaching hospital network, which spans seven hospital campuses across the New York metropolitan region including The Mount Sinai Hospital and the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. The school renamed itself after a two hundred million dollar gift from businessman and philanthropist Carl Icahn, announced in 2012. It enrolls well over a thousand students and employs thousands of academic staff across its campuses.
