Stanford University School of Medicine

Stanford University School of Medicine is the medical school of Stanford University, located near Palo Alto, California, and part of Stanford Medicine, which also encompasses Stanford Health Care and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Its lineage traces to a medical department established in San Francisco in 1858, originally known as Cooper Medical College, which Stanford acquired in 1908 before relocating the school to the main campus in 1959. The school employs several hundred faculty members and enrolls roughly three thousand five hundred students in total, including postgraduates, and is highly selective, admitting only a small fraction of its thousands of yearly applicants. It has consistently ranked among the top schools nationally for medical research.
