Carl Benjamin Klunzinger was a German physician and zoologist, born in Güglingen on 18 November 1834 and died in Stuttgart on 21 June 1914. He studied medicine at Tübingen and Würzburg, then in 1862 travelled to Cairo, and from 1864 worked as a physician at the Red Sea port of Kosseir, where he spent five years collecting fish and other marine animals. He studied that collection in Stuttgart and published works on the fishes and corals of the Red Sea, and in 1884 he became professor of zoology at the University of Stuttgart. Several species carry his name, among them Klunzinger's sweeper.
