Eduard Weber

Medical Scientists, Physiologists and Pharmacologists

Eduard Friedrich Weber (1806 to 1871) was a German anatomist and physiologist, the younger brother of the physiologist Ernst Heinrich Weber and the physicist Wilhelm Eduard Weber. Born in Wittenberg, he studied medicine at the University of Halle and received his doctorate in 1829. From 1836 he served as prosector in the anatomical institute at the University of Leipzig, where in 1838 he became a privat-docent with a thesis on physiological studies of galvano-magnetic phenomena in humans, and from 1847 to 1871 he was an associate professor there. He assisted his older brother Ernst in experiments on the inhibitory power of the vagus nerve. With his brother Wilhelm he wrote the study of human walking, Mechanik der menschlichen Gehwerkzeuge, in 1836, and he also contributed articles to Rudolf Wagner Handwoerterbuch der Physiologie.
