Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition characterized by a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, a persistent need for admiration, and a lack of empathy for others, typically beginning by early adulthood and present across a variety of contexts. Affected individuals often have an inflated sense of their own importance and achievements, a preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success or power, and a tendency to exploit others for personal gain. The disorder takes its name from Narcissus, the figure in Greek mythology who fell in love with his own reflection, and was formally added to the DSM in 1980.
