Occupational and Speech Therapy

Occupational and speech therapy covers treatment delivered by occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists to restore or build the skills a person needs for daily activity, work and communication. It includes occupational therapy itself along with vocational and recreational rehabilitation aimed at returning a person to work or meaningful activity; sensory integration therapy and cognitive rehabilitation therapy for processing and thinking skills after injury or a developmental difference; speech-language pathology and speech-language therapy for communication and language disorders; and dysphagia management techniques such as thickened fluids for swallowing safety. It does not include exercise-based physical rehabilitation of strength and movement, grouped under Physical Rehabilitation Therapy, or psychotherapy and behavioral treatment of mental health conditions, grouped under Psychotherapy and Behavioral Therapy.
