Hakaru Hashimoto (May 5, 1881 - January 9, 1934) was a Japanese physician of the Meiji and Taisho periods, best known for publishing the first clinical description of a thyroid condition later named Hashimoto's thyroiditis, in his 1912 German-language article Struma lymphomatosa. He was born in Iga, Mie Prefecture, and died there in 1934.
