Electroanalgesia

Electroanalgesia is a form of pain relief that uses electricity rather than drugs to ease pain, and belongs to a broader category of neurotherapy. Electrical devices used for this purpose can be internal or external, and applied locally at the site of pain or throughout the whole body. It works by interfering with the electric currents that carry pain signals, inhibiting them from reaching the brain, in contrast to traditional analgesics such as opiates or NSAIDs that act chemically. It has a lower addiction potential than opiate drugs, but can pose serious risks, including death, for people who also use other electrical medical devices such as pacemakers or internal hearing aids.
