Twilight Anesthesia

Perioperative and Anesthetic Care

Twilight anesthesia is a sedation technique that produces a relaxed, drowsy state without full unconsciousness, using mild sedative doses to relieve anxiety, induce drowsiness and prevent the formation of new memories so that the patient forgets the procedure and the period right after it. Patients remain able to respond to simple commands from medical staff throughout. It is popular for procedures that do not require full general anesthesia, including minor cosmetic surgery, dental work, dermatological procedures and gastroenterological examinations, because it allows quicker waking and recovery and causes less nausea and vomiting than general anesthesia.
