CHOP (Chemotherapy)

CHOP is a combination chemotherapy regimen used in the treatment of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Its name is an acronym for its four component drugs: cyclophosphamide, an alkylating agent that damages DNA by binding to it and forming cross links; hydroxydaunorubicin, also known as doxorubicin, an intercalating agent that damages DNA by inserting itself between DNA bases; Oncovin, also known as vincristine, which prevents cell division by binding to the protein tubulin; and prednisone or prednisolone, corticosteroids. The four drugs are given together as a first line treatment for the disease.
