Time delay toxin activation (TDTA) is a chemotherapy approach in a class of drugs described as high specificity anticancer agents. A chemotherapy drug is manufactured and administered in a nontoxic, prodrug form, allowed time to concentrate in cancerous or invasive tissue, and then converted by a separate activation drug into its pharmacologically active, toxic form at the target site. The approach is intended to minimize toxicity to healthy cells and reduce the adverse side effects of chemotherapy.
