Cryolipolysis, commonly referred to as fat freezing, is a non-invasive procedure for fat removal that uses extreme cold to freeze subcutaneous adipose tissue in specific areas of the body, aiming to reduce localized fat deposits. It is cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration for treating areas including the submental area, jawline, arms, lumbar rolls, flanks, abdomen, thighs and under the buttocks. The term is often used interchangeably with brand names such as CoolSculpting, one of its most well known commercial implementations.
