Ileal interposition is a metabolic surgery procedure used to treat overweight patients with diabetes. First described by the Brazilian surgeon Aureo De Paula in 1999, it works by relocating a segment of the ileum, the lower part of the small intestine, to an earlier position in the digestive tract, usually alongside a sleeve gastrectomy.
