All Hormone Therapy

Cancer treatments that work by blocking, lowering or counteracting the hormones that drive a hormone-sensitive tumor's growth, most often in prostate and breast cancer, rather than by killing tumor cells directly with a cytotoxic drug, radiation or surgery. This includes hormone therapy and hormonal therapy for cancer broadly, and androgen deprivation therapy, which lowers or blocks testosterone and other androgens to slow the growth of hormone-sensitive prostate cancer through medication, surgical castration or a combination of both. A treatment that also affects hormone signaling but whose primary mechanism is a molecularly targeted drug against a specific receptor or enzyme pathway, such as a kinase inhibitor, is grouped instead under targeted and molecular therapy.
