Anti-VEGF therapy, or anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy, is the use of medications that block vascular endothelial growth factor, in the treatment of certain cancers and of age-related macular degeneration, for which it is most often delivered by intravitreal injection rather than given systemically. The medications include monoclonal antibodies such as bevacizumab, antibody derivatives such as ranibizumab, and orally available small molecules that inhibit the tyrosine kinases VEGF stimulates, including sunitinib, sorafenib, axitinib and pazopanib.
