The Ortolani test is a physical examination maneuver, performed alongside the Barlow maneuver, used to screen infants for developmental dysplasia of the hip. The test is considered positive when a posterior dislocation of the hip can be reduced, meaning pushed back into place, by the maneuver, and it forms a standard part of the physical examination given to infants early in life. It is named after Marino Ortolani, who developed it in 1937.
