Alternative and Complementary Cancer Treatments

Cancer treatments used outside mainstream oncology, historically marketed or practiced without the clinical evidence base of the atlas's other oncologic therapy groups, or explicitly labeled as alternative or complementary. This includes alternative cancer treatments broadly, named historical protocols and compounds promoted as cancer cures (Essiac, Gerson therapy, the Gonzalez regimen, Hoxsey therapy, laetrile, insulin potentiation therapy), traditional-medicine-derived compounds (realgar and indigo naturalis, a traditional Chinese medicine preparation), and the broader category of plant sources of anti-cancer agents, covering naturally derived compounds under scientific investigation as potential drug sources rather than an established treatment class of their own. A plant-derived or traditional compound that has become an approved, mechanism-defined drug class is grouped instead under chemotherapy regimens or targeted and molecular therapy rather than here.
