Dermatologic Surgery

Procedures that treat the skin, hair and nails themselves, performed to remove, resurface or restore the skin rather than to reshape underlying tissue. This includes lesion and growth removal such as electrodesiccation and curettage and comedo extraction, resurfacing procedures such as chemical peel, dermabrasion and laser skin treatments, hair restoration procedures such as hair transplantation and follicular unit transplantation, and injection based cosmetic procedures such as injectable filler and injection lipolysis. Procedures that reshape or remove larger volumes of tissue, such as a facelift or body contouring, are grouped instead under plastic and reconstructive surgery, since dermatologic surgery here covers the skin surface and its direct treatments rather than deeper reconstructive work.
