Astragalectomy, also called talectomy, is a surgical operation that removes the talus bone of the ankle in order to stabilize the joint. It was historically used to treat severe ankle trauma and clubfoot, and is now reserved for rarer cases such as deformity following poliomyelitis or conditions secondary to spina bifida.
