Chondroplasty is surgery performed on cartilage. The most common form is corrective surgery of the cartilage of the knee, used to treat damaged or degenerated cartilage in that joint. A distinct related operation, known as thyroid chondroplasty or tracheal shave, reduces the visibility of the thyroid cartilage, commonly called the Adam's apple, and is most often performed as part of facial feminization for transgender women.
