Coccygectomy is a surgical procedure that removes the coccyx, or tailbone. It is a required treatment for sacrococcygeal teratoma and other germ cell tumors arising from the coccyx, and it is used as a last resort for coccyx pain, known as coccydynia, that has not responded to nonsurgical treatments such as cushions, injections or medication.
