Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Procedures that reshape, augment, reduce or reconstruct the body's surface and soft tissue for a cosmetic or reconstructive purpose, rather than to treat disease in an internal organ. This includes cosmetic procedures such as breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, facelift and liposuction, reconstructive procedures such as breast reconstruction, free flap and skin grafting after injury or cancer surgery, and craniofacial and cleft procedures such as cleft lip and palate repair. Facial feminization and masculinization surgery and other gender affirming procedures that reshape the face or chest rather than the genitals also belong here. Genital gender affirming procedures are grouped instead under reproductive and genital surgery, and procedures that treat a skin condition itself rather than reshape tissue are grouped under dermatologic surgery.
