Cocooning (Immunization)

Cocooning, also called the cocoon strategy, is a vaccination approach that protects infants and other vulnerable people from infectious disease by vaccinating the people around them. It is used most often against pertussis, where parents, family members, and caregivers receive DTaP or Tdap boosters to reduce the chance that they will pass the infection to a newborn, since most pertussis deaths occur in infants too young to have completed their own vaccination series.
