Whole-cell Vaccine

Whole-cell vaccines are a type of vaccine prepared in the laboratory from entire cells, allowing them to present multiple antigens at once to activate the immune system and induce antigen-specific T-cell responses. They have been researched both in bacterial infectious disease, as inactivated vaccines, and in cancer, using tumor cells modified to stimulate the immune system by secreting stimulatory molecules. One whole-cell vaccine still in global use is the whole-cell pertussis vaccine.
