Willem Zeylmans van Emmichoven

Frederik Willem Zeylmans van Emmichoven was a Dutch psychiatrist and anthroposophist who served as chairman of the Dutch Anthroposophical Society from 1923 until his death, becoming a familiar figure in Dutch public life through his lectures and writing. Alongside his psychiatric practice he founded a psychiatric hospital and established the first Waldorf School in The Hague, and he authored the first biography of Rudolf Steiner. His research examined the effects of color on human emotion and wellbeing, connecting his clinical psychiatric interests to anthroposophic ideas about therapeutic environments. Born 23 November 1893 in Helmond, he died 18 November 1961 in Cape Town, South Africa.
