Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, originally the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, is a public private global health partnership established in 2000 and based in Geneva, Switzerland, that works to increase access to immunization in low income countries. It is the largest organization distributing donor funding toward vaccines, having channeled more than a third of all donor immunization funding between 1990 and 2016, and it works through five year funding cycles with donor governments, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank, and private philanthropies. Gavi has helped immunize roughly seven hundred and sixty million children and has been credited with preventing more than thirteen million deaths, while also negotiating bulk vaccine prices and supporting price discrimination that helps developing nations and reduces commercial risk for manufacturers. It holds observer status at the World Health Assembly.
