Hypothermia therapy for neonatal encephalopathy is a mild total body cooling treatment, inducing a temperature of thirty three to thirty four degrees Celsius for three days after birth, given to full-term and near-term newborns after moderate to severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. It is a standardized part of newborn care and is the only medical intervention shown to reduce brain damage from this condition while improving an infant's chance of survival and reducing long-term disability.
