Fever, also called pyrexia, is a symptom of the body's anti-infection defense mechanism, appearing when body temperature rises above the normal range as the body's temperature set point in the hypothalamus increases. There is no single agreed upper limit for what counts as normal temperature, since sources place it anywhere between 37.2 and 38.3 degrees Celsius in humans.
