Symptoms, Signs and Abnormal Clinical Findings

Lifestyle diseases are diseases linked to the way a person lives, commonly non-communicable conditions that can be caused by factors such as insufficient physical activity, poor diet, alcohol use, substance abuse and tobacco use. They can lead to serious health complications including cardiovascular disease, stroke, excess weight, type 2 diabetes and lung cancer, and illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, asthma, various cancers, diabetes, heart disease and osteoporosis tend to become more common as societies industrialize and their populations age. Treating lifestyle diseases represents a substantial economic burden, and while some experts try to separate age related disease from disease linked to modern or affluent living, conditions such as diabetes and asthma increasingly appear in younger people who adopt western lifestyles, which complicates that distinction.
