Polyuria is excessive or abnormally large production or passage of urine. It often appears together with polydipsia, excessive thirst, though it is possible to have one without the other, and increased production and passage of urine may also be called diuresis. Polyuria is usually viewed as a symptom or sign of another disorder, but it can be classed as a disorder in itself when its underlying cause is not clear.
