James Ellis Barker (1870 to 1948) was a British historian, journalist, homeopath and naturopath, born in Cologne as Otto Julius Eltzbacher and naturalised as a British citizen in 1900. He was taught homeopathy by John Henry Clarke, became an influential British homeopath, and in 1932 took over the editorship of The Homeopathic World from Clarke, renaming it Heal Thyself and co-editing it with his wife, Eileen Homer. He was Honorary Secretary of the New Health Society. He also advocated an alternative cancer treatment, promoting the idea that cancer is caused by autointoxication from chronic poisoning and vitamin starvation, which is recorded here as what he held, not as established medicine. This entry records what was held and done and is not medical advice.
