Cryolipolysis, commonly referred to as fat freezing, is a non-invasive procedure for fat removal that uses extreme cold to freeze subcutaneous adipose tissue in specific areas of the body, aiming to reduce localized fat deposits. It is cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration for treating areas including the submental area, jawline, arms, lumbar rolls, flanks, abdomen, thighs and under the buttocks. The term is often used interchangeably with brand names such as CoolSculpting, one of its most well known commercial implementations.

FAQs
Is fat freezing a way to lose weight?
No. It targets a localized fat deposit and does not result in weight loss.
No. The United States Food and Drug Administration states that non-invasive body contouring does not treat obesity or improve your health, and that it will not result in weight loss. Cryolipolysis is aimed at reducing a localized fat deposit in a treated area, not at lowering body weight overall.
