RICE is a mnemonic acronym for four elements of a treatment regimen commonly used for soft tissue injuries: rest, ice, compression, and elevation. It was hoped the regimen would reduce pain and swelling, but evidence for its benefits is insufficient. As of 2020, early movement is more often recommended, with the acknowledgment that short term immobilization is occasionally needed for pain.
