Methods that try to end a dependence on alcohol, drugs or another addictive substance by working on the person's expectations and fears rather than by prescribing medicine or running a recovery program. This includes suggestion-based and hypnosis-based approaches such as Coding, the Russian and post-Soviet practice in which a therapist tries to frighten a patient into abstinence. An entry belongs here when its own source describes a distinct method for stopping substance use. It excludes ordinary drug treatment of addiction, which is grouped under pharmacological therapy, and peer and program based recovery, which is grouped under psychotherapy and behavioral therapy. Each member is a rehabilitative, behavioral or reproductive therapy entry that the atlas covers as a subject in its own right, placed here on what its cited article says it is and how it is used, never on its name alone.
