Climatotherapy

Historical and Premodern Treatment Practice

Climatotherapy is the temporary or permanent relocation of a patient to a region whose climate is considered more favorable to recovery from or management of a condition. Examples include people with sickle cell disease moving to lower altitudes, where the partial pressure of oxygen is higher, to reduce sickle cell crises, and sites such as the Dead Sea region being studied or advertised as beneficial for people with psoriasis.
