Occupational Therapy

Occupational and Speech Therapy

Occupational therapy is a healthcare profession and treatment approach that helps people participate in the everyday activities, or occupations, that are important to daily life, including self-care, work, school, social participation, and leisure, often following injury, illness, or disability. The profession took formal shape in the early twentieth century in the United States: the National Society for the Promotion of Occupational Therapy held its inaugural meeting in March 1917, and the organization adopted the name occupational therapy in 1921. Occupational therapists work with patients across the lifespan, adapting tasks, environments, and assistive equipment to restore or maintain functional independence.
