Targeted Alpha-Particle Therapy

Oncologic Therapy

Targeted alpha-particle therapy is a method of targeted radionuclide therapy, still in development, for treating various cancers. It uses radioactive substances that undergo alpha decay to deliver radiation to diseased tissue at very close range, giving it the potential to target microscopic tumor cells with high precision. An appropriate radionuclide is chemically bound to a biomolecule that carries the resulting radiopharmaceutical to the treatment site, and proposed targets include leukemias, lymphomas, gliomas, melanoma, and peritoneal carcinomatosis.
