Conduct disorder is a mental disorder diagnosed in childhood or adolescence, characterized by a repeated and persistent pattern of behavior that violates the basic rights of others or breaks major age-appropriate social norms. Behaviors associated with the disorder can include theft, lying, physical aggression, destruction of property, and rule-breaking. The disorder is often viewed as a precursor to antisocial personality disorder, though that later diagnosis, by definition, cannot be made until adulthood, and conduct disorder itself is frequently linked to parental rejection or neglect.
