Mental and Behavioural Disorders

Dementia is a syndrome, classed as a major neurocognitive disorder, often associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, and characterized by a general decline in cognitive processes that affects the ability to perform everyday activities, typically involving problems with memory, thinking, behavior, and motor control. An estimated 57 million people were living with dementia in 2021, it caused about 1.62 million deaths in 2019 with that figure projected to rise to 4.91 million by 2050, and it is the seventh leading cause of death worldwide, with about 10 million new cases diagnosed annually. There is no known cure, and the condition is progressive and life-limiting.
