Herniated Disc

Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System and Connective Tissue

A herniated disc, also called a spinal disc herniation, is a condition affecting the intervertebral disc between two vertebrae, usually caused by excessive strain or trauma to the spine. It can produce back pain, pain or abnormal sensation elsewhere in the body, and physical disability. MRI is the most conclusive way to diagnose it, and treatment ranges from painkillers to surgery.
