Prolotherapy, also called proliferation therapy, is an injection-based treatment used for chronic musculoskeletal conditions. It is administered by injecting an irritant solution into an affected ligament, tendon or joint with the aim of provoking a local healing response. Despite continued use, prolotherapy is considered an unproven treatment, and rigorous evidence establishing its effectiveness for the conditions it is used to treat is lacking.
