Astrocytoma is a type of brain tumor that originates from astrocytes, a star shaped kind of glial cell found in the cerebrum. It does not usually spread outside the brain and spinal cord or affect other organs, and after glioblastoma it is the second most common type of glioma, occurring in most parts of the brain and occasionally in the spinal cord.
