Balloon phobia, also called globophobia, is a fear of balloons. The most common source of the fear is the sound of a balloon popping, which makes it in that respect a form of phonophobia, but some individuals are instead triggered by the texture or the smell of a balloon. People with globophobia will generally refuse to touch, feel, smell or go near a balloon because they fear that it will burst. The condition is a specific phobia in which a common, harmless object provokes anticipatory fear, and the avoidance it produces is the practical difficulty for those affected. The record here is descriptive and is not medical advice.
