Breech Presentation

Breech presentation describes a pregnancy in which the baby is positioned to be delivered buttocks or feet first rather than head first, occurring in about 3 to 4 percent of pregnancies at full term. It carries a higher than average rate of possible complications for the baby, so breech births are generally considered higher risk, and most babies in breech position are delivered by caesarean section because it is viewed as safer than vaginal delivery in most settings; doctors and midwives in developing countries often lack the equipment or hospital resources needed to safely assist with vaginal breech births.
