Cystitis is the medical term for inflammation of the bladder, and is the lower form of urinary tract infection, distinct from the upper form which affects the kidney. Symptoms of a lower urinary tract infection affecting the bladder include burning or pain during urination, pain in the lower abdomen, and an urge to urinate even when the bladder is empty.
